If you are new to researching about war time experiences and you don't know much about the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry you need to be aware  –  the Ox and Bucks had TWO first battalions!

The 1st Battalion  Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry was a regular army battalion which formerly was known as the 43rd and is often referred to as the 1st Battalion (43rd) Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. The 1st Buckinghamshire Battalion was a territorial unit and should always be referred to as the 1st Buckinghamshire , 1st Bucks or sometimes just the Bucks Battalion Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.

I have come across information where the writer has confused the 1st (43rd) Battalion with the 1st Bucks Battalion and it is misleading for the unwary as both units were part of the BEF, but in different brigades and part of different spheres of action.

The regiment did have two second battalions as well, the regular 2nd Battalion (52nd ) and the 2nd Bucks Battalion but as neither of these battalions were part of the BEF in 1940 they do not present a problem for research on this topic.
Not the 43rd
